THE FREEDOM OF SELF-CONTROL
Anchor Scripture
""The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray." — 1 Peter 4:7"
Devotional Message

Self-control is frequently misunderstood as a restrictive and joyless discipline. The apostle Peter, however, presents it in a different light. He connects being ‘alert and of sober mind’ directly with our ability to pray effectively. This fruit of the Spirit is not about caging our personality, but about clearing our minds for communion with God. An undisciplined heart, tossed about by every emotion, distraction, or desire, struggles to find the stillness required for meaningful prayer. Self-control, therefore, is a form of spiritual freedom. It is the gentle rein of the Spirit that steadies our souls, enabling us to focus on what is eternal and to connect with the heart of the Father.
